Travel Insurance

While traveling this year I was flying with US Airways. They lost my luggage for a couple of days, and when they delivered my luggage it looked like it had went through World War III.

I had items missing from the inside although I had a lock on the luggage, and shampoo bottles burst and bled all over my clothes.

When trying to get help at the lost baggage counter at the airport I was treated as if I was bothering the representative and he just printed a slip and told me to call the 800 number. No matter what I wanted to say, he referred me to the 800 number.

So that number must be the place to call to get answers right? HAH!

I called the number and got someone who did not have proper mastery of the english language. No matter what I asked , she had a script she read and it went something like" we're unable to locate your luggage sir, if you do not receive your luggage within four days please return to the lost luggage counter at the airport to access more information"

I asked what was I supposed to do in the meantime, and that I needed to get reimbursed for the cost of having to buy clothes and personal items. The answer was
" we're unable to locate your luggage sir, if you do not receive your luggage within four days please return to the lost luggage counter at the airport to access more information"

I asked what day it was and the answer was " we're unable to locate your luggage sir, if you do not receive your luggage within four days please return to the lost luggage counter at the airport to access more information"

I hung up and called again and this time a man answered with the same script. I was told that I was calling a call center in south america.

To make a short story short, I lost out by using US Airways. If I had thought to get travel insurance I would have been able to avoid this whole mess and had an easy time of my trip.

So moral of the story is; When you travel, get travel insurance. It doesn't have to cost an arm or leg. You can get good coverage from $15 to $60 depending on what you want insured.
